KIRJOTAAN HELSINKI KATUTAITEELLA! (Scroll down for English)

Multicoloured Dreams -katutaidekollektiivi kutsuu sinut mukaan kirjomaan ja maalaamaan katutaideteoksia Helsingin keskustaan. Suunnittele yksin tai ystäviesi kanssa seinämaalaus rakennustyömaa-aitaan, tai vapaatekniikkainen teos verkkoaitaan. Tämän vuoden kokonaisuuden teemana on ‘Kirjottu kaupunki’.

Työt toteutetaan syyskuussa osana Helsinki Design Weekiä 12.-22.9.2013. Kaikki maalit taiteilijoille tarjoaa Teknos. Seinäkohteet ja muut sponsorikuviot tarkentuvat elokuun aikana, mutta suunnittelun voi jo aloittaa.

OSALLISTU! Mcd-katutaiteilijaksi ovat tervetulleita kaikki halukkaat.

1. LIITY Facebookissa Multicoloured Dreams -taiteilijaryhmään:  https://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_121514311226275&ap=1.             Postaa luonnoksesi ryhmän seinälle, jossa ryhmän jäsenet voivat kommentoida ja antaa vinkkejä tms. Tarkoituksena on jakaa kokemuksia ja tietoa, sekä jeesata toisiamme hiomaan suunnitelmista parhaita mahdollisia. Voit vielä muokata luonnostasi deadlineen saakka, jos haluat. Jos et käytä facebookia, siirry suoraan kohtaan 2.

2. LÄHETÄ LOPULLINEN LUONNOS katutaideteoksestasi pe 30.8. mennessä osoitteeseen multicoloured.dreams@gmail.com. Ilmoita viestissä tekijän nimi tai ryhmän kokoonpano. Kerro myös millaiseen seinään teos on suunniteltu (vaneriaita/verkkoaita), millä toteutustekniikalla ja millaisin materiaalein.

3. Tiimimme tekee suunnitelman seinäkokonaisuuksista, ja hyväksyttää mukaan valitut luonnokset seinien omistajatahoilla. Ilmoitamme valintapäätöksistä kaikille luonnoksia lähettäneille ti 3.9. Mukaan valituille lähetetään tarkemmat toimintaohjeet. Kaikkien teosten on tarkoitus olla valmiina 22.9. mennessä, ja jäädä esille mahdollisimman pitkäksi aikaa.

Muutamia tärkeitä huomioita:                                                                                            -Vaneriaidat ovat yleensä 240cm korkeita. Työn leveys riippuu suunnitelmasta.                   -Verkkoaitojen koot vaihtelevat paikan mukaan.                                                                     -Verkkoaitateosten materiaalien kestävyyteen kannattaa kiinnittää huomiota, tai valita maatuva materiaali. Maatumattomat teokset poistetaan viimeistään, kun ne alkavat ränsistyä.                                                                                                                                  -Hyvistä verkko- tai vaneriaidoista voi myös vinkata meille!

LET’S PATTERN THE CITY!

Multicoloured Dreams (MCD) street art collective welcomes everyone to join the street art project with the theme ‘Patterned City’. Design a street art piece suitable for a plywood wall or wire fence. It can be a painting, graffiti, yarn bombing or anything you come up with.

The works will be realized as a part of the Helsinki Design Week 12.-22.9. 2013. The paints for artists will be provided by Teknos. Further information about the sponsorships and wall locations will be added to our facebook page during August.

JOIN IN! Everybody is welcome.

1. JOIN the Facebook group ‘Multicoloured Dreams’:  https://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_121514311226275&ap=1                  Post your sketch on the wall. Everybody inside the group is welcome to comment on the works. Until 30.8. the works can still be modified if the artist wants. Don’t be alarmed by the process, it’s only to create some conversation, get new ideas, and help you refine your plan. If you’re not in Facebook, skip this phase.

2. EMAIL THE FINAL SKETCH to multicoloured.dreams@gmail.com by 30.8.      Message should include the following information: Your name/names, artwork platform (plywood wall/ wire fence), technique, required materials.

3. The final works are selected and coordinated by MCD team and then presented to the wall owners. The applicants will be informed about the decisions by Tuesday 3.9. and the chosen artists will receive more detailed information on the process. The artists will realize their pieces by 22.9. and the art works will remain as an urban exhibition as long as possible.

Some notes:                                                                                                                           -Plywood walls are usually 240cm high. The width of the work depends on the plan.           -The sizes of wire fences can vary.                                                                                         -When planning a piece for a wire fence, pay attention to the durability of the materials or choose biodegradable materials. Non-biodegradable artworks will be removed once they start to fall down.                                                                                                                      -If you know good walls or fences, let us know!

Oranssi kaupunki

Osallistuimme Helsinki-päivänä 12.6. ydinporukallamme Prosessifestivaaleihin Suvilahdessa. Oranssi tarjosi meille pohjaksi suuren keikkatilan sisääntuloseinän heidän uusista, vielä remontin alla olevista tiloistaan. Teemaksi työlle valitsimme ‘kaupungin kaikkine mausteineen’. Kokkeja sopassa oli kaikkiaan kuusi, ja otimme maalaamiseen varaslähdön jo kaksi päivää ennen H-hetkeä. Itse festaripäivänä keikkatilassa oli kahvila ja korttipaja, ja ihmisiä kävi pitkin päivää seuraamassa maalailuamme. Ja hei, kokonaisuudesta tuli kaikkea muuta kuin vain oranssi!

On Helsinki Day 12.6. our core group took part in Process Festival in Suvilahti. Oranssi offered us a big entrance wall in their new activity centre Valvomo. Theme we chose for the work was ‘city with it’s wild spices’. Altogether there were 6 of us, and it took us 3 days to complete the work. The third day was the festival day, during which there was a café in the space, and people came in all day to watch us work.  And the final work – well, it turned out quite multicoloured!

Sillan alla Kauniaisissa

Viime vuoden keväällä ja alkukesästähän toteutimme Kauniaisten kuvataidekoulun, muutaman lukion ja yläasteen, ja kahden senioriryhmän kanssa upeat seinämaalaukset keskustan rakennustyömaa-aitoihin. Kokonaisuus kattoi koko keskustan rakennustyömaa-aidat, ja paikalliset toimivat taiteilijoina. Loppusyksystä pääsimme myös omalla pikkuporukallamme taiteilemaan, kun saimme maalata Thurmaninpuiston ja Palokunnankujan välisen rautatien alikulkutunnelin. Kirsikkana kakun päällä on se, että alikulkutunnelin muraali tulee olemaan paikallaan useampia vuosia. Valitsimme teemaksemme maanalaiset eliöt ja oliot, ja siellä niitä nyt kiemurtelee ja kahvittelee tunneleissaan. Käykää itse katsomassa!

Last spring we carried out a project in Kauniainen with several local schools, Kauniainen art school, and couple of senior groups. The locals got to be artists in painting a big ensemble of construction site fences, and the results were super nice. In the late autumn, however, our “small” group got to be the artists by ourselves. We were asked to paint the railroad underpass between Thurman’s park and Palokunnankuja. The cherry on top was, that the mural will stay there for several years. Our theme in the mural is underground life and beings. Go check it out!

Deko: Värillä on väliä

Deko-lehti kävi toukokuussa haastattelemassa Multicoloured Dreamsin ydinryhmää Kauniaisissa keskellä työn tiimellystä. Päivä oli kesän ensimmäisiä, ja Kauniaisten julkisen tilan WDC-projekti alkoi olla loppuhuipennustaan vaille valmiina. Odotettu Dekon artikkeli ilmestyi viimein elokuun lehdesssä (8/2012), kera useiden värikkäiden kuvien!

Deko magazine came to interview Multicoloured Dreams core group last may in the middle of painting workshop preparations. It was one of the first summer days, and Kauniainen WDC project was just coming to it’s grand finale. The article came out in this months Deko (8/2012) with lots of colourfull pictures!

Yli 40 uutta Multicoloured Dreams -teosta Helsingin katukuvaan

Helsingin keskustan työmaa-aitoihin on heinäkuun ensimmäisten viikkojen aikana syntynyt jo useita kymmeniä katutaideteoksia ja lisää on tulossa. Kesän 2011 Rauha-projektiin tuli n. 60 ehdotusta, joista reilu 40 päätyi toteutettavaksi.

Taiteilijoiden työskentelyä sekä valmiita teoksia voi käydä katsomassa kolmessa eri paikassa: Kampin Narinkka-torin laidalla, Töölönlahden rakennustyömaiden luona sekä Eduskuntatalon ja Kansallismuseon väliin jäävällä puistikkoalueella.

Heinäkuun lopussa kaikkien töiden valmistuttua teoksista julkaistaan näillä sivuilla kuvia ja taiteilijoiden kommentteja. Lisäksi elokuun aikana järjestetään yleisöäänestys, jonka perusteella jaetaan kolme Rauha-stipendiä.

Over 40 new Multicoloured Dreams artworks in the Helsinki city centre

More than 40 new street art pieces will be made to the construction site walls in Kamppi and Töölönlahti During the July 2011. Multicoloured Dreams team received over 60 proposals of which about 40 pieces were chosen to be part of this summer’s project Multicoloured Peace.

First artworks are already finished and the rest will be finalized by the end of June. Artworks can be seen on the construction site walls in three areas: Kamppi Narinkkatori, the construction sites of Töölönlahti and in the little park between the Parliament House and the National Museum.

Photos and information of the works will be published on this site in the end of July.

Multicoloured Dreams palkitsee yhden kesän 2011 yhteistyökumppaninsa, Helsingin Seurakuntayhtymän, tuella kolme Multicoloured Peace -projektin teoksista. “Rauha-stipendit” ovat suuruudeltaan 300€, 200€ ja 100€.

Palkitseminen perustuu yleisöäänestykseen. Kun kaikki työt ovat valmiina, ne kuvataan ja kuvat julkaistaan MCD-blogissa ja Facebook-sivulla. Äänestys tapahtuu Facebookissa suosikkiteoksista “tykkäämällä”. (Ne, jotka eivät ole Facebookissa, voivat äänestää sähköpostitse suosikkiteoksiaan.)

Tarkempaa infoa heinäkuussa. Pysy kuulolla ja pidä hauskaa katutaiteen parissa!

MCD street art awards to be given!

With the support of one of our co-operators, The Parish Union of Helsinki, Multicoloured Dreams is able to award three artworks of this summer’s project Multicoloured Peace. The first price is 300€, the second price 200€ and the third price 100€.
Awards will be given based on the audience’s opinion. Once all the artworks out on the streets are ready they will be documented and pictures published on the MCD website and Facebook page. Voting takes place in Facebook by “liking” the favorite artworks. (For those not in Facebook, voting is possible by sending a personal email with the titles of the favorite artworks.)

MCD invites everybody in town to release construction site walls for street art! Theme for this summer is PEACE & PEACEMAKING. Summer’s main site is the construction site wall for Kamppi chapel next to the Kamppi shopping mall. Other sites will be updated on this webpage.

“After Romania and Bulgaria joined to the European Union in 2007 many Roma started to use their right for the free movement and residence in other EU Member States in search of better conditions of life. Even though they haven’t been able to leave the discrimination behind. It seems to follow them where ever they go.

Because of the lack of job opportunities many Roma have been contending for the most precarious works with immigrants without papers and are mostly earning their living by begging money, selling flowers or collecting bottles on the streets of European cities, as well as in Helsinki.

”I dream of one day being able to settle down somewhere with my family. Rent a flat, find a job and put my children to school. To live and be treated like a normal person,” said a Roma man living in a caravan in Helsinki.”
